The Beatles: Authentic set of Beatles signatures obtained on a BEA (British EuropeanAirways) postcard beautifully by John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
George
Harrison and Ringo Starr with Paul adding
“
Beatles
”
.
The postcard was signed in blue biro by The Beatles on Wednesday February the 5th 1964 on what
is now an historic BEA flight from Paris to Heathrow after the band performed a very successful run of
shows over a 15 day period at the Olympia Theatre in Paris…As a warm up for their appearance on
the Ed Sullivan Show in America. While in Paris The Beatles learned that “I Want To Hold To Hold Your
Hand” went to number 1 in America.
Authentic full sets of Beatles autographs are getting harder and harder to come by. What a lot of collectors
don’t realize is how many times Paul would sign for John (he signed for John a
lot more than people think)
or how many set of Beatles signatures are out
there
signed by Beatles roadies Neil Aspinall and Mal Evans.
These autographs were obtained by a BEA Airways flight attendant, for her cousin and how they were
obtained is explained in the letter of provenance from the original recipient of these Beatles autographs
(see
below).
Comes with a letter of provenance, which reads in part:
"To whom it may concern,
During the 1960's my cousin was a flight attendant with British European Airways and regularly
flew to continental Europe. Passengers on one of her flights were the four members of the pop
group "The Beatles": Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
At that time postcards showing a picture of the aircraft were available on the aircraft and free for
passengers to take as a souvenir of their flight. My cousin took one of the postcards with a
picture of a de Havilland Comet and asked Paul McCartney if he would sign it for her.
Paul wrote "Beatles" and signed his name. He then passed the postcard to John Lennon
who also signed his name as did George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
My cousin thanked them all and on returning home gave the postcard to me,who at the
time was a young teenager had a fondness for the Beatles.
I have had the postcard for over 50 years and believe that the flight the Beatles were on
was the BEA flight from Paris which landing at London Heathrow Airport on Wednesday
the 5th of February 1964.
Yours faithfully
