Description
This superb original unrestord and unmolested hardwood wood working bench is a super rare find today. I suspect it was made by Steiner in Germany sometime before WW II. As you can see, it has had very little use. It comes with two vises that still look like new for the most part. If you can help date this bench, PLEASE let me know. This is an extremely rare bench at best and truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to own one in this nearly new condition. The work surface measures 95-1/2" wide by 25" deep (not counting the left front and right hand end mounted vises) and 33 tall to the top of the work surface.
There is a tool trough along the back so one's tools do not roll off onto the floor or toes. It is tapered on the right side so one can easily wipe or brush the dust and chips out of the tool trough at the end of the work day.
Thanks to the semi-arid and relatively dry climate here in Montana (only about 13 inches of total precipitation including rain and snow in a year), there is no rot on the wood or rust on the steel parts. Please notice how the fragile wood vice handles still look like the day they were made. You will have a very difficult time finding a nicer bench than this one unless you happen to find one that is knocked down and still in the original wood shipping crate.
All of the wood and steel parts are still wearing their original finishes and have never been refinished or touched up at all. There are few minor dents, nicks and scratches in the wood, especially on the edges of the vises as you can see in the photos. The bare steel round ways and screws in the vises are not rusted or corroded at all.
I can find no current or past listings for a bench like this here on eBay. I did a Google search and found one that sold for around ,000 a while ago. It showed a lot of use and abuse and was nowhere near as nice as this bench is.
This might make a great table to photograph high end models on. It is also nice enough to be used as furniture in someone's home. One could use if for a bar to eat on in one's kitchen. The possibilities for this great piece of history are truly endless.
I have listed this jewel as being for "Local Pickup Only" to keep this listing simple.
