    Description

    RARE Antique Burmese Lacquerware Container
    This antique Burmese lacquerware medical container presents a stylized chicken or mythological Hamsa bird. The carved head is detachable and the body is textured in spirals indicating feathers. The container is lacquered in red and the outermost layer is black. The container shows signs of use. See photos for details.
    I obtained this lacquer ware 1997 in an antique store in Myanmar and was told that such containers were used for storage of medicine.
