It is wooden marionettes manipulated by means of strings.
In those days of Myanmar kings, it was known as Ah-Myint-Tha-Bin which literally means performance on the high level. Myanmar Marionette enjoyed the rare and powerful privilege of being the voices of both king and common man. It was not only for entertainment, but also a highly esteemed art for all classes. Marionettes were methods of making people aware of current events, a medium for educating the audience in literature, history and religion, a display of life style and customs. At the same time they functioned as mouthpieces for the people in the days of royalty by telling stories like dramatists and by dancing like subtle choreographers.
