Description
A typical early maneki neko from the kilns of Seto near Nagoya, which have been making maneki neko figures since before 1900. This figure probably dates to the late Meiji period, roughly 1900-1912 or so. I bought her from a Japanese antiques shop, which identified the era for me. She bears the wear and dirt of true age and authenticity. It is rare to find these larger-sized Meiji period Seto cats, and this is a nice example in good antique condition. I have had her for about 15 years now, a beautiful addition to the top of one of my library bookshelves, one of a large, treasured collection of antique maneki neko figures. I love her, but my space is limited, and it is time to allow her to find her next home.
