At auction is an exquisite hand made/ hand beaded Pettit Point Evening bag -- hand beaded and embroidered -- in France in 1896. It belonged to a great, great aunt who bought it for her trousseau in France in 1896.
She wore it on her honeymoon, then tucked it safely way in a drawer where it remained throughout her life, her daughter's life, and her grand daughter's life. Until recently, the only time it was removed from its resting place was to show this beautiful purse to a select few relatives.
The elegant and tasteful purse measures ~6" x ~5.25"with tiny black beads surrounding the identical petit point design on each sides of the bag. They also surround the three (3) petit point flowers and leaves and along the 1" wide side and bottom of the purse.
The purse is lined with champagne-colored- phial hand sewn in place, with open "pocket" on one side of the purse's interior. The metal chain on top of the purse has become detached from one side of the snap close textured metal purse frame can easily be reattached to its original metal loop on the bag's frame.
Aside from this very minor, easy repair required, this century plus pad purse is in outstanding condition, and awaits a new owner to adore, display, and/or use it.
Further, this item comes from a pet and smoke-free home, and is clean and odor free.
