Ernst Leitz Gmbh Wetzlar Mystery Adapter Piece Lensboard Flange? w/Quick Release

Original Ernst Leitz Gmbh Wetzlar piece/adapter which has a quick release mechanism.
I am not sure what the purpose was exactly, suspect maybe a lens board attachment.
Being sold as-is. There is a slight amount of paint loss, but has a fully functional quick release.
Made in the Germany.
Metal/aluminum and chrome rim. Fully functional.
