ca. 1800 Large, Burmese (est.) Earthenware/Terracotta Pipe with Elaborate Incised AdornmentsItem Description and Condition Details.
A carved terracotta or earthenware pipe, probably Burmese, and most likely fired in the early 1800’s or earlier. The pipe is well worn with a nice patina suggesting that was use over a long period, all edges are worn smooth and polished. The decoration consists of three sets of deeply incised parallel grooves which encircle the bowl and the stem with a herringbone design rising from the bowl on both sides of the stem. There evidence of its burial at some point in the past as the passage between the bowl and stem is block with what looks like dirt. The object to have been well cared for in the past and remains in wonderful condition. The damage that is present is consistent with its contemporary use and
occurs
primarily around the edge of the bowl and stem.
