Antique OOAK Burmese Thai Sterling Silver Repousse Temple Dance Hanging Basket

Description

Striking antique (late 19thor early 20th century) Thai or Burmese Silver hanging basket, decorated with repousse decorations featuring temple dancers surrounded by large floral motifs. The deep embossing or repoussé, and the hand-forming technique used in the making of this antique basket are of note. The detailing and surprising dimensionality of the ornate scrolls is exquisitely considered around the highly realistic figures.  High quality silver works that have been hand-hammered like this one are a rare find.
Unsigned and unmarked but testing positive for sterling silver, the basket is 3 3/4" tall (7 1/2" with the handle) with a diameter of 7 1/4" and weighs a hefty 270g. In very good vintage condition with one small but slightly visible issue, a small split in the edge of the basket (could easily be mended, but this will be left to buyer's discretion). Also some patina (should polish nicely)
