    Description

    Burmese Lacquer Box with nested tray, ca. 16th - 19th Century
    Length: 13 1/4 " / 33.7 cm; Width: 8" / 20.3" cm; Height: 6 1/8" / 15.6 cm
    Decorated on the exterior with a panel of two mythical beasts cavorting amongst large peonies;
    on the sides, a reclining single beast.  Borders of scrolling vinery and inside these of solid red, surround
    the animals. Box contains a red-lacquered tray and a panel decorated with gold flowers on black
    Losses to lacquer finish at the joints and corners/edges, overall wear is less than might be expected given an age
    of over 200 years.
