    Description

This is a large antique black lacquerware bowl that was most likely made in Burma in the late 19th century as either an offering bowl for monks or as a carrying vessel for food.  This sizable piece, measuring 13 inches across and 4 inches deep, is surprisingly lightweight at only 8.8 ounces.
Its beauty is undeniable.  The surface is a glossy black lacquer which has naturally worn over time creating a visually arresting pattern across its surface.  The ribs are particularly captivating when they capture the light.  The maker used their fingertips to carve the ridges into sawdust-infused lacquer, resulting in striking shapes within the overall pattern.
