    Antique 19th Century Double sided Burmese
    Kammavaca manuscript
    hand painted prayer plaques, 4 plaques in total
    Made of thick cloth coated with gold and lacquer

    Each plaque measures 23.75 inches long by 6 inches tall.
    4 pages from the rare Burmese Buddhist Sutra manuscript the KAMMAVACA.
    These religious pages were made from cloth (frequently monks robes) which was thickly coated with red lacquer and gold leaf decoration. The square letters were written in the language of Pali in Burmese square script, using black lacquer from the tamarind seed.
    Each leaf (page) is inscribed on both sides. As with such pages, there is a small hole on the leaf to put a string and bind the various pages together into a "book" or manuscript.
